Illogical Evolving Equinox, Combat and the Saint Patrick's Day Blues

The equinox is almost here and my body is conspiring to get knocked up on me again, as it does every year when dark and day share nicely. Sharing perpetuates itself in its selfishness.

St. Patrick was a sharer in another way -- well, first he was a slave and then a priest and then an orator. He christianized the Irish (an act which may be blasphemous) but also convinced them to abolish slavery 1000 years before Columbus dug the Middle Passage. So that probably mitigates any personal gripes I might have with monotheism and organized religion. But still, Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular are such BDSM institutions like heroic (modern Western) medicine. This post pretty much seems to be about me opening the assault rifles on any institution I'm supposed to have surrendered to or am currently selfishly sharing with -- so you may want to look away quickly. And recently a friend of mine said it's always combat with me. That must suck, knowing me like that. My presence is never restful or soothing, unless you're an infant or going through a bout of psychosis. I can rock colicy babies to sleep on my knee and I can calm someone experiencing active psychosis. I could describe the steps I take in both of these cases, but it probably wouldn't make a logical pattern -- it's more like when your physics professor tries to teach you calculus or engaging your lover in combat. On second thought, it's nothing like that.

I don't like myself at all today and I'm also thinking one million pornographic thoughts. So maybe ego stroking and self-loathing are an expression of selfish sharing which is quite likely the driving procreational force in humanity.

During finger therapy all of the OTs cryptically discuss amongst themselves how snappy and cruel one surgeon can be. Personally, I find him to be very compassionate and kind of sexy. But I don't work for him, either. Of course today, a second-tier somebody else mentioned in a whisper that Dr. That Guy just really needs to get some. But once you start speculating about what someone else is getting, it might mean that you aren't getting enough either -- or maybe you just want to be the one to give it to them.

Doesn't everybody get turned on by cruelty at some really basic, reptile brain level? And truthfully, all of us guilt-ridden girls just get juiced-up love panties for doctors. We want to marry them and sue them and do what they tell us and then blow them in their exam rooms or maybe we just love surgeons in self-defense because there they are convincing us to let them pierce us to the bone even though it hurts and costs and scars. We let them tie us to the table and slice apart our skin and maybe knock us out and maybe keep us awake -- completely at their discretion and we never, ever question the choice, really. We just surrender.

But then we catholic girls are fed guilt and surrender on toast from baptism and we're told to die virgins like St. Maria Goretti or second best, surrender to the yoke of holy matrimony and pop out lotsa babies in 10 month intervals so there will be more catholics and consequently we have lots of weird sex & worthiness issues because the only ones really enjoying sex in our religion are the child-raping priests since only they can absolve sin which came to earth via Eve, etc.

Probably all of that crazy Catholic sex between Yahweh & Mary (not Joseph) and St. John Bosco & the oratory boys and even Adam & Eve actually happened on the Equinox which can never be a birthday but is often a conception date which is why the pope tells you life begins at conception but we girls know it doesn’t really count until it comes out like the sun, so really its solstice you’re waiting for, Holy Father, you just didn’t notice because of all of that blinding sunshine.

(The top image is a painting called Lady Doctor by John Woodwark. The Birth of the Sun King is by Hetty MacLise. I found it on her blog.)

Use Your Words

The definition of socialism from the Oxford English Dictionary:

When greedy Wall Street motherfuckers and soulless bankers expect the tax payers to pay their multimillion dollar bonuses (not salaries, bonuses) that is not socialism. One could correctly state that AIG received the biggest welfare check ever written in the history of the world. One could correctly call AIG and every other corporate pirates of public trusts THIEVES and TERRORISTS holding America hostage in hard times. But that does not make Obama a socialist. Get it straight. Use your words.

This endless, unaccountable handout to AIG and the continued refusal to bring Bush and Cheney up on charges (for obstructing justice, treason, war crimes, torture, etc.) DOES make Obama and his party a bunch of wimps (especially when Obama tries to "reach across the aisle" to Republicans with their never-ending mantra of tax breaks for the wealthy... FUCK BIPARTISANSHIP AND THE REPUBLICAN FORKED TONGUE IT SLID IN ON. They lost 2 elections in a row by a wide margin. Stop kissing their asses because they have no cachet. You'd be better off reaching out to the Greens and Libertarians and let's all of us together shoot that elephant dead once and for all.)

PS .... The OED is the greatest book ever written and if one insists on reading ONLY one book in their life (which I think is stupid, demented and pathological) then please, do the world a giant favor and make it the Oxford English Dictionary instead of that gory collection of ancient Hebrew myths and the re-working or the Osiris legend as told by the Holy Roman Emperor Constantine to keep an unwieldy empire in check. The OED is much more relevant and much less incendiary. Thank you for doing your part to make a better humanity.

Crazy Never Takes A Vacation!*

Have you seen this woman who had octuplets -- only it turns out she already had 6 kids and she's a single mom living at home with her parents? Did she get invitro fertilization? Yes, indeed she did. She tells us all that she can only have kids with the help of in vitro and so she needs it. She told us all about this on any media outlet that will have her but she has to push the words through all of the collagen in her lips. Her lips are so jacked up she can't even close them. Lady, lay off the optional medical procedures, please!

She knows she is unemployed and living with her 14 children and her folks, but she says it's cool because god will help her take care of her kids.

I got knocked up the old-fashioned way when I was 20 and I have a beautiful son so I have something to share with Nadya Suhlman, the young collagen-lipped woman who lives in a shoe.

Bitch, you're crazy!

Number one, Jesus does not pay child support. God the father is a deadbeat dad. Probably so are all of the other gods but I won't name them here. This isn't Maury Povich. Oh, and all of those church people who worry about all of the zygotes and blastocysts won't help you raise your kids either. They won't send you a few bucks because you put your kids' school pictures in a Christmas card. They are only interested in ultrasounds.

Also, it is a proven fact that never-married mothers make less than 60% of what men earn. (Divorced moms do slighty better. They average about 65% of men's earning and married mothers actually crack the seventieth percentile.) I can tell you from personal experience that this a reality and not a story made up by feminists to give Ann Coulter something to bitch about. I make about 2/3s of many women who do the same job as me in the same institution. I am powerless to fight this however, because I will be told that I am in a different department and things don't work the same there. Besides, this is not the time to be pointing to Lily Ledbetter and asking for a pay raise.

So good luck, Nadya! I really do hope you find a medication that works for you and maybe some dynamic interventional therapy and a very rich man to marry you and all fourteen of your children. Or maybe the idiot doctor who performed the fertilization procedure contrary to guidelines will be forced to feed, clothe and college your little rugrats.

I gotta go watch the president try to get 750 billion dollars for infrastructure so the El quits falling on people's heads and maybe help reduce the 8% unemployment rate in our fair city. The republicans don't like it, though. They'd rather give that money to CEOs and let the rest of us die in floods or train crashes when the levies break and the train tracks wear out. Oh yeah, and creationism and abstinence-only education.

No wonder the poverty level is up...

But according to Tom, it's probably too little, too late.

Voter Fraud Watch Redux

Remember November 2000? In Florida, where W's brother just happened to be governor, all of those ballots marked Gore had to be thrown out and in violation of the US Constitution, the Supreme Court dubbed W. "the Decider".

Now it's 2008 and BushCo's fat cat friends don't want to give up their lucrative, thieving ways -- and dammit, McCain is old and it is his turn to be President. So in Michigan, the Republicans are once again attempting to use vote caging -- by using foreclosure lists to prevent hard hit Michigan citizens from voting.

Can you imagine the scene at the polls???
Hard-Working, Laid-Off, Tax-Paying Citizen Ruined By BushCo ("Citizen"): I'm John Q. Public. May I please have my ballot?
Heartless, Greedy, Unpatriotic Asshole GOP Election Judge ("Unpatriotic GOP Asshole"): Let me see... hmmmm.... I'm very sorry, Mr. Public. You won't be voting today.

Citizen: What do you mean? I've been coming to this polling place for 20 years!
Unpatriotic GOP Asshole: Yes. But you are no longer a homeowner in this area. You lost your home. You can't pay your bills. You don't get to vote.

Citizen: I lost my home because the factory where I've been working for the last 25 years moved to China. My heating bill tripled and my daughter developed leukemia from drinking polluted water. Now we rent an apartment in this precinct with another family. It's crowded, but at least our kids didn't have to change schools. Now, please hand me my ballot. Besides, property ownership is not a voting requirement. Does the GOP even know how to spell constitution anymore? (authors note: please see Constitutional Amendments 14, 15, 19, 24 and 26.)

Unpatriotic GOP Asshole: I am so sorry you've had such a hard time, but that hard time is precisely why you CAN'T vote. We simply don't trust that you will continue to be a loyal Republican and if we think you won't vote for McCain, you lose your right to vote.

And the Democrats, in a surprising and long overdue display of chutzpah, ARE ACTUALLY CHALLENGING THIS BEFORE THEY LOSE ANOTHER ELECTION. The Democratic National Committee is taking the GOP to court in Michigan and in Ohio, their Secretary of State has stricken the dubious vote caging policies put in place before the election in 2004 by her Republican predecessor.

Ohio Republicans are crying foul -- because today's Republican policy makers see a level playing field as a threat to their continued looting and tyranny. It is the only thing they see clearly these days. However, 2 Ohio "voters" are now suing Ohio for not weighting their votes more heavily, by throwing out the votes of others. Ohio Republicans are also attempting to challenge voters via foreclosure listings. Boy, those Republicans really put country first! Not! Actually, Republicans are trying to prevent homeless citizens (whose numbers have greatly increased during BushCo's tenure) from voting at all anywhere in the country. Now THAT'S compassionate conservatism and good, old fashioned patriotism. Sure, sure, sure!!!

Go, Obama, go! We're from Chicago and you can't trick us, you GOPpy, crappy, pansy, crybaby neocons. We INVENTED voter fraud back when your great-granddaddies were still getting pantsed at Andover and we reformed ourselves long before John McCain took bribes from Charles Keating during the Savings and Loan Scandal.

We are on to you crooks and you aren't getting away with it this time.

I'm Shipping Up to Boston...

Just got back from Boston. I was sent there on business, but it was my first visit. It's a great town. I would happily move there someday.

Mostly, I worked my ass off; but I did get to go to a Red Sox game at Fenway Park. I spent an afternoon wandering around, visiting historical monuments, etc.

Part of my family lived in Boston for a couple of years between Ireland and the Homestead Act -- so I kind of enjoyed squinting my eyes and imagining the streets as they were when my ancestors arrived.

Just in case you wanted to know, John Hancock is enshrined beneath an approximately 10 ft tall snow white, circumcised penis, with his silhouette placed near the head like a slightly off-kilter, giant Prince Albert. (A Hancock headstone in the shape of a penis IS kind of appropriate, don't you think?)

I also spent my semi-insomniac nights in a strange (if comfy) hotel working on my Sarah Palin impersonation. It's such an excellent impression to do, because once you get the voice down, you just mimic all of the stupid/scary/ crazy shit that Dogmatic Geography Quayle 2.0 keeps spouting.

I have lots of political stuff to discuss -- like the complete diplomatic breakdown between the US and 3 South American countries, the financial crises, our Biblical Plague weather conditions and Sarah Palin's precocious pre-schooler's grasp of ethics, the Bush Doctrine and foreign policy -- but I've miles to go before I sleep. So ta-ta for now!

Oh, and of course... here is the little tune I sang to myself the entire time I was in Boston.

I'm a sailor peg
And I've lost my leg
Climbing up the top sails
I lost my leg!

I'm shipping up to Boston whoa
I'm shipping up to Boston whoa
I'm shipping up to Boston whoa
I'm shipping off...to find my wooden leg

Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player,
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage,
And then is heard no more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.

Reading Is FUNdamental

Like so many fundaMENTALists, Governor Palin of Alaska has trouble separating fact from metaphor. For example, last night she stridently asserted that ...

However, please see the chart below and note that excepting those people earning more than a quarter of a million dollars a year, Senator Obama's tax plan actually decreases income tax more than Senator McCain's plan. Senator Obama would create budget surplus, rather than Senator McCain's defecit. Maybe Governor Palin should clean her glasses.

The tax plans:

Incomes of:
--Obama-- --McCain
$227,000 - a year - plus -- --$23,000 more-- --$15,000 less
$112,000 - $227,000-- --$2,300 less-- --$3,200 less
$66,000 - $112,000--
--$1,290 less-- --$1,009 less
$38,000 - $66,000-- --$1,042 less-- --$319 less
$19,000 - $38,000-- --$892 less-- --$113 less
$0 - $19,000-- --$567 less-- --$19 less

For everyone:
$4,000/yr /college student
Double the dependent credit to $7,000

Impact of tax changes on federal budget:
Obama's plan will return $700 billion
McCain's plan will cost us $600 billion
Source: Chicago Sun-Times

(Oh and FYI, John McCain has never voted in favor of a bill which would help small businesses or relieve their taxes or make those taxes equitable to big business. I don't know what Heather is going to do if McCain and Palin win the election in Novemeber.)

Oh, and a shout out to Michael who sent me the candidate's tax plan chart.

Just in case you thought this would be a free election

In St. Paul, Minnesota -- where everybody is nice! -- they are arresting journalists and bloggers who are trying to cover the Republican National Convention, including Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! Maybe you would like to sign the petition, requesting that Nice St. Paul, Minn., nicely respect the constitution and a free press. Go here.
Also, please note that while you had to tune in to PBS last week to watch the Democratic Convention, all of the big 3 networks are broadcasting hour-long edited versions of the Republican Convention, including most of the bigger speeches.

(Like the one where W. remembers to say 9/11 for the eighty gazillion bajillionth time, and tangentially compares "the angry left" to the Vietcong who tortured McCain at the Hanoi Hilton. Yeah, you bet your flat ass I'm angry, W.)

And some of the things you might have missed watching the convention on ABC, CBS or NBC, included Big, Bad Barbara Bush of the Beautiful Brain laughing when hearing about the deaths of 13 people during a bridge collapse in Minnesota last year and Papa H.W. checking his watch while Laura rambled through her Halcyion high, smile plastered firmly to her stepford face.

Poof!!! Be gone!!!

Jim Piculas was a substitute teacher in Land'OLakes, Florida. One day he stood in front of a classroom in which he was subbing and performed a magic trick. He made a toothpick disappear and reappear.

One of the students went home and told his parents about the magic trick. The parents called the school to complain. It seems that they didn't like Piculas practicing "wizardry" in class. So the school administration called Piculas and told him to come in for a chat.

Piculas was let go from the Land O' Lakes School District. The official reason for his dissmissal was not following curriculum. Of course, this was probably just a good example of administrative
CYA.

My question is: for how long must we continue pandering to the lowest common denominator? A man lost his job because of parents who thump their bibles but can't be bothered to read a dictionary. If they had opened up their dictionaries, they might have read the following definitions listed under "trick":

  • A ludicrous or grotesque act done for fun and amusement.

  • An illusory feat; considered magical by naive observers.

I think "naive" is too kind an adjective to describe the parents screaming "wizardry" in Central Florida. The word that comes to my mind starts with a "d" and ends with an umbass. But then again, I can't actually recall hearing the term "wizardry" in this context. Is it something from the Harry Potter series, or perhaps from the Malleus Maleficarum, the handbook of the Inquisition? So since I do believe in consulting a dictionary, I went back to Webster's. Here is the lone entry under wizardry:

  • Exceptional creative ability.

Well, now I understand. Piculas wasn't fired for doing a magic trick -- he was fired for being creative. And no one wants to see teachers (especially substitute teachers) encouraging creativity.

That's just not part of the curriculum.

Happy Birthday, Chuck and Abe...

"God is change." -- Octavia Butler

"We change, whether we like it or not." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Today's post is dedicated to 2 Aquarians, born on this day, who changed our world with their vision. They are Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin.
For those who say honest Abe wasn't actually anti-slavery, here is a passage from Abraham Lincoln's second Inaugural Address:

The Almighty has his own purposes. “Woe unto the world because of offenses!
for it must needs be that offenses come; but woe to that man by whom the offense
cometh.” If we shall suppose that American slavery is one of those offenses
which, in the providence of God, must needs come, but which, having continued
through his appointed time, he now wills to remove, and that he gives to both
North and South this terrible war, as the woe due to those by whom the offense
came, shall we discern therein any departure from those divine attributes which
the believers in a living God always ascribe to him? Fondly do we hope—fervently
do we pray—that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet, if God
wills that it continue until all the wealth piled by the bondsman’s two hundred
and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood
drawn by the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said
three thousand years ago, so still it must be said, “The judgments of the Lord
are true and righteous altogether.”

I take that to mean slavery is wrong and our punishment from God for allowing it to go on is this war in which so many have died.

And another quote:

"The slave-breeders and slave-traders, are a small, odious and detested
class, among you; and yet in politics, they dictate the course of all of you,
and are as completely your masters, as you are the master of your own
negroes." -- August 24, 1855 - Letter to Joshua Speed

*****************************************************

Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge: it is those who know little, and not those who know much, who so positively assert that this or that problem will never be solved by science.

-- Charles Darwin

Remember kids, there is nothing intelligent about intelligent design and if the scientific theory of evolution can destroy someone's belief in god or a higher power or whatever, I would propose that they never had much faith to begin with. Here is a link explaining why so-called "intelligent design" is baseless and intolerant.

Happy Darwin Day and Lincoln's Birthday!

We gotta make a change... It's time for us as a people to start makin' some changes. Let's change the way we eat, let's change the way we live and let's change the way we treat each other. You see the old way wasn't working so it's on us to do what we gotta do, to survive. We gotta make a change...

Change or die.

ImpeachBush.org currently has 983,130 people voting to evict W from the White House. They are pushing to make it a million person referendum ASAP. If you haven't done so, click here and get counted.

Why? Surely (you are thinking to yourself) W will be gone in a year. But we must impeach him anyway,

  • because of 9/11 happening due to his negligence and on his watch and yet he dares to use it to terrify us;
  • because hundreds of thousands are dying worldwide because of his thirst for oil profits;
  • because since he stole office, most of us want to emigrate to Canada;
  • because he lied about Iraq;
  • because he is lying about Iran;
  • because he and his staff committed treason by outing the entire undercover intelligence unit in Iraq and Iran and are putting our military in jeopardy in that region without the benefit of intelligence;
  • because he has set back progressive environmental procedures and policies at least 25 years, rendering this planet poisonous for my future great-grandchildren;
  • because he has turned the constitution into a bird cage liner, forever destroying our system of checks and balances unless we impeach him
  • because he has ignored the Geneva Convention
  • because he has rolled back habeus corpus
  • because of these and so very many reasons
  • and now for the latest...

While he causes all of these horrible, terrible dramas worldwide, he makes a movie for real and true... starring his damned scotch terriers, the Drunken Twins, the Stepford Wife, Alan Jackson (who should now return all of his gold records and music awards) and Tony Blair (who should probably be evicted from the UK).

Go on, you know you want to visit the page and watch it in the media player of your choice. Go on, click it, click it , click it...

But don't forget to first add your name to the call for impeaching Bush.

Does That Include You?

In case you hadn't noticed here, here, or here -- I think Ann Coulter is an irrational, self-loathing idiot.

Her latest echolalial tangent involves the role of single women (a demographic which inexplicably includes soccer moms in the hallucinatory sovereign world of Coulter) and the continued existence of the Democratic Party. Well, duh! Who but a rich white man (or a brainwashed christianazi) is going to vote Republican? The law of mathematics would then mean that once you subtract the rich, white men from the population of voters, those voting for Democrats would include a majority of females. This isn't some kind of genius insight Ann.

But what exactly do you mean by the following statement?

"If we took away women's right to vote, we'd never have to worry about another Democrat (sic) president"

-- Ann Coulter

When you received your lobotomy did they also remove your genitals as well as your ability to correctly use the English language? Or is it just the brain damage caused by years of starvation which causes you to forget your gender? Are you willing to give up your own right to vote for the greater good of the Big Oil Party? Are you actually an android being controlled by the Greys via remote so that they can continue uninterrupted in their plans to gentically re-engineer the human race by convincing the christianazis that their space fleet is actually a cadre of angels come to bring the rapture?

Seek therapy immediately, Ann. Also, stop smoking crack before appearing on television. It's bad form.

Why does anyone still let Ann speak in public? Come on, Rupert! Even you must know better by now.

Bush's Updated Body Count

A little over a year ago, I posted Bush' s body count. In honor of General Petraeus' eagerly anticipated State of the War Address, I thought it was time to update the body count of the murderous traitor and miserable failure. Also, it was very convenient of the general to give his report the evening before the 6th anniversary of 9/11 -- providing W the opportunity to falsely tie these 2 unrelated events together for the billionth time.

124,971 human beings killed by George W. Bush.

What a miserable failure and a murderous traitor! (Let's stop the bloodshed and impeach this administration.)

She Had an Abortion, So You Don't Have To...

I would like everyone to get acquainted with Kayla. She has a thrilling career in financial auditing! But like many of today's energetic young women, she has a lot of time on her hands -- time she could be spending frying up salmon patties for the homeless or tutoring kids with her mad math skills. But you see Kayla wanted to do something a little more original...and a lot more despotic and narcissistic with her free time. So Kayla has offered her services as one of the postergirls for VoteYesForLife.com, one of the mastermind organizations behind the South Dakota ban on abortion.

You see, Kayla had an abortion a few years ago in South Dakota, then felt bad about it later -- so now she wants to make sure that no other woman gets the same legal access and control over her own medical care. Kayla was a sad, sad person after that abortion -- a sadness so profound it's given her a kind of omniscient wisdom so powerful that she must decide what's best for everyone in South Dakota faced with an unplanned pregnancy. Kayla even got to speak before the House State Affairs Committee in South Dakota in February. Here's what she had to say:

Have you ever felt like a vapor; a mere mist dissolving in the life surrounding you? Empty? Invisible? No real substance, just a vapor? A vapor is how my abortion left me.

(COME ON, KAYLA! That's how you address your state assembly -- trite comparisons and predictable imagery, smeared with a whole lot of egocentric adolescent angst?!? Honey, please... I encourage your use of your right brain, but you need a less destructive outlet. Can't you scribble down some poems and attend an open mike somewhere? Or purge yourself with thru spiritual vomiting by writing in a journal or a blog?!?!)

Since today is Genesia (ancient Greek festival in which offerings are left for the dead), I submit this entry to the zygote or embryonic cluster that Kayla chose to terminate. And I hope this offering brings Kayla some peace -- because guilt and grief aren't good company.

Also, today is the feast of
Artemis the Huntress. She is associated with both fertility and destruction, as they are 2 sides of the same coin.

WW III? WTF???!!!???

"The 666 cut W.I.C. like Newt Gingrich SUCKS D*** " Fugees "The Beast"

And to the left (literally, not idealogically) we have Newt -- notice how he surreptitiously plays pocket pool while contemplating "the early stages of WW III."

Okay -- so far this entry has been vulgar AND immature, but come on!!! Evidently, while I was having a fun, peaceful weekend with Nora, Aunt Dawn and Welches et. al., Newt Gingrich managed to get his Neocon pimp rap on the political talk circuit with soundbytes such as this stinky gift:

"I, I believe if you take all the countries I just listed, that you’ve been covering, put them on a map, look at all the different connectivity, you’d have to say to yourself this is, in fact, World War III." Gingrich on Meet the Press, 7/16/05

The countries he's discussing are North Korea, Iraq, Lebanon, Iran, etc. But why do I just get the sensation that the Neocons are out to start a holy world war in order to make money for their pocket pals in crime...and perhaps to revoke our civil rights? (Example... the Patriot Act, which primarily seems to be exercised on a district/ local level in order to circumnavigate the 5th Amendment and inflict double jeopardy on U. S. Citizens.)

Do not swallow it. Do not let this administration and it's lackies talk us into a World Freakin' War in order to up their ratings and win elections. Rick Santorum is one person who has quickly come out in support of Gingrich -- because he's up for reelection and as one of Satan's minions believes war to be both sexy and profitable. On Thursday at the National Press Club in D.C., Santorum said:

“the biggest issue facing our children’s future is a war. Not, as so many describe it, the War on Terror. Not the war in Iraq or Afghanistan. But the world war, which at its heart is just like the previous three global struggles.”

Did he ever take a history class? Does he understand that SO FAR (thank goddess) there have only been 2 World Wars? Or is he maybe thinking of the Crusades? Because these Neocons seem really hot this summer to release a new blockbuster sellout --

World War III Meets

Crusades Two: My God Can STILL Beat Up Your God.

(I'm sorry, but I'm completely incapable of being rational about this topic at the moment. I realize the arguement I've presented is neither concrete nor logical, nor well-organized. But I'm pissed, I'm emoting...and there it is. I'll try again some other time.)

Get your burquas while they're still cheap

...because the American Taliban is aggressively legislating against women's freedoms. Back in April, abortion was banned in South Dakota. The FDA is attempting to stonewall over-the-counter availabilty of Plan B (the morning after pill) against their own precedents. (Read this to-the-point editorial from the Washington Post about one married mother's inability to access Plan B.)

Of course, now that the American Taliban has been so successful in eroding Roe v. Wade, the next plan is to prevent access to birth control -- that goes for the married folks out there too. Of course, from a litigious perspective this is perfectly logical. Roe v. Wade was successfully argued from precedents established by
Griswold v. Connecticut. In Griswold, the Court ruled that the state could not pass laws against contraception -- therefore, if the American Taliban can continue to stack all 3 branches of the federal government with their zealots, then Griswold will soon go the way of Roe. If you think I'm over-reacting, please read "Contra-Contraception" by Russell Shorto.)

And finally, read about the new federal guidelines to healthcare providers strongly suggesting that all women in their bleeding years be treated as "pre-pregnant". (Read "Forever Pregnant")
Now, we haven't quite made it to
Atwood's bleak future of total womb occupation, but the American Taliban is surely trying to flagellate the nation to that not-so-ficticious-seeming future as quickly as possible.

As much as I enjoy motherhood, I believe I am a more effective mother (not to mention human) when my country considers that I am the Super Deluxe Sirena Action Figure -- I come with features other than my uterus.
