We Need Your Help
My cousin has a bet that he needs to win. What would you declare the best song ever recorded from the eighties, nineties or thousands? It has to beat "the best song ever recorded" from the seventies. It will be voted on by a group of mostly 28-30year olds, mostly women from working-class backgrounds, pursuing a post-grad degree.

Breakdown was recorded in 1976 -- which is impressive, since my all-time favorite Petty work is the CD "She's the One", which I think was recorded about 20 years later. That's staying power.
We're working on the theory that he's going to have to beat "Baba O'Reilly" or something off Led Zeppelin III, IV, or Houses of the Holy.
We kept trying to play songs after "Baba O'Reilly", but nothing has really held up yet.
Currently, U2 is the strongest contender -- although I've been lobbying for hip-hop.
