La Fuerte, La Suerte

Very, very bad things happened to me and mine in a tangled tangled knot from 2001 through 2003. We knew some hard times before and after -- but that period was particularly unlucky -- for me especially. If I crossed the street during those days, I was sure to be run down by a semi truck.

But I'm alive and loved. I even have a reasonably good job and decent apartment and wheels.

Today I had the privelege of revisiting the geography of my personal hell. It made me feel queasy and temporary -- but now that place has been transformed to a good home for my sister, a place of success for my cousins and a refuge for my whole crazy tribal family.

The serial killer didn't get me and neither did Ashcroft.

Pete built a bonfire and I burned my sins and bad luck. We played with the babies and laughed and had debates about politics and the wars and whatnot.

I am so damned blessed. Truly.

Life is a trial by fire. Ashes to ashes. Those shielded from the heat never know the full flavor of living.

Feeling blessed is truly a blessing.

Sail on, sailor.

Thanks Sailor!

It's like the country song says:
"Life isn't tried, it's just merely survived
If you're standing outside the fire."
